NASHIK: Dashing left-handed batsman
Saurabh Tiwary quit Jharkhand
Ranji Trophy captaincy on the eve of their four-day Plate division match against Maharashtra.
Left-arm spinner Shahbaz Nadeem has stepped into the skipper's shoes.
The 21-year-old Tiwary, who is a member of the Royal Challengers Bangalore IPL team, quit the leadership role citing "inability to sustain captaincy under pressure".
His team is on three points with the third match of the season in progress. Tiwary was with Mumbai Indians in the 2010 IPL and also played three ODIs the same year.
Rajesh Verma, secretary, Jharkhand State Cricket Association, confirmed the development. He said Tiwary has clarified that captaincy pressure is hampering his natural playing style and he wished to focus on his batting.
Jharkhand coach Tarit Ghosh said: "Players are known to lose form under pressure of captaincy. It has happened to the best of players. With the pressure off his back, Tiwary is likely to perform much better."
"I want to devote time to my batting and improve my game rather than work under constant pressure," Tiwary, who was a member of the Indian team that won the U-19 World Cup in Malaysia in 2008, said.
